History Bites lecture series returns May 25
LITCHFIELD >> The popular History Bites Lecture Series is back. The Litchfield Historical Society invites you for their installment of the series on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at noon.
Portrait miniatures thrived in America in the early nineteenth century. In this talk, curator of collections, Alex DuBois, will dig deeper into the art of painting tiny watercolor likenesses on ivory, while examining the life and work of artist Anson Dickinson. Born in Milton in 1779, Dickinson completed over 1,500 miniatures in his career and traveled as far as South Carolina and Montreal seeking new commissions. Join us as we discuss his early life in Litchfield, view his original works, and explore the pages of his own sketchbook.
Bring your lunch; desserts and beverages will be served. Admission is $2. Registration is requested, but not required. The History Bites Lecture Series is sponsored by the Connecticut Community Foundation.
