“Saturday in the Park,” is free and open to the public. It will feature arts and craft vendors, food vendors, and a 15-minute loop presentation on the history of the park presented by the Torrington Historical Society. The Main Street Marketplace Express train will also be making an appearance and will be there all day to take riders of all ages on a round trip around the park. Saturday in the Park will be held rain or shine.

“We wanted to create a new event that can become a tradition so choosing Memorial Day weekend seemed to be the perfect timing to have an event,” said ACT Chairman Edward Cannata, in a written statement. “We all love Coe Memorial Park and wanted to kick off this popular weekend with a fun event for everyone in Torrington, and the surrounding area.”

The commission is still welcoming vendors; if anyone is interested, contact ACT commissioner Rachel Kelly or Ed Cannata at actcommission@gmail.com or visit www.artsculture-

“We are delighted to have this line up of artists,” said network owner Theresa Channell, in a written statement. “We are taking a break from our annual summer concert series (Ladies n’ Lyrics) and were glad to team up with the Arts & Culture Commission to showcase these independent artists.

The Singer Songwriter Network was an initiative originated by the Arts & Culture Commission in September of 2009 by past ACT Chairman Steve Criss and present commissioner Jacque Williams.

Kicking off the show will be past winner of Infinity Hall’s singer songwriter talent contest in Norfolk, Mark Papallo who will perform from 12-12:25 p.m.

Following Papallo at 12:30 p.m. is recording artist and singer/songwriter Kath Bloom, who just returned from an Asian/European tour.

Howard Baldwin, who recently produced a music video that is being recognized both regionally and nationally, follows Bloom at 1:10 p.m., and featured artist, Gale Gardiner, will be on stage from 1:45-2:15 p.m. She is one of the original artists to perform in the Singer Songwriter Network’s “Ladies n’ Lyrics” summer concert series. With seven CDs to her credit, she may be heard frequently at various venues throughout the area.

Brian Mattiello, special guest artist for the afternoon, is set to perform at 2:30 p.m. He is not only known for his musical endeavors, but is also well known for his charitable efforts and diligent work in the community. “When I heard that music was going to be in Coe Park, it was a no-brainer to me,” he said. “Count me in.”

The mission of the Singer Songwriter Network is to support, assist, develop and promote original artists performing original music. For information on the Singer Songwriter Network, go to www.ssnt09.org or contact Theresa Channell at ssnt09@gmail.com.
