Digitizati­on day set for June 4 in Litchfield

LITCHFIELD »On Sunday, June 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Litchfield Historical Society is organizing a town-wide Digitizati­on Day where residents can bring in material for digitizati­on. Staff from The Connecticu­t State Library will help digitize your photos, documents, textiles, and other Lit ch fieldrelat­ed artifacts to further our research and understand­ing of the town. The Society will retain a copy of the digital file of the items brought in, for use in research, publicity, exhibits, and programmin­g and inclusion in the Connecticu­t Digital Archive. Most items will be returned to everyone in the same day and participan­ts will receive a copy of the digital file. This event is free and open to the public.

The town of Litchfield, Connecticu­t will be celebratin­g its 300th Anniversar­y in 2019.

Litchfield encompasse­s the center village, Bantam, Northfield, Milton, East Litchfield, and Morris (pre-1856), and the Litchfield Historical Society seeks to document all areas of town. A Common Heritage grant awarded to the Society by the National Endowment for the Humanities will fund these projects held to prepare for the anniversar­y.

Library to raffle Porsche

KENT » The Kent Memorial Library will raffle a pristine 1998 Porsche Boxster in a fund raising raffle project starting on Memorial Day. The crimson red convertibl­e has very low mileage, a five speed manual transmissi­on and a six cylinder boxer design engine as well as several factory upgrades. Raffle tickets are being sold in the library, during the annual Library Book Sale and at multiple venues around town. Tickets may also be purchased by sending the Library a check with a self-addressed stamped envelope addressed to: Kent Memorial Library Car Raffle, P.O. Box 127, Kent, CT 06757, and the raffle stubs will be mailed back to raffle entrants.

Entrants must include a phone number where they can be reached on October 29 should they win. The state of Connecticu­t requires that all raffle tickets be completed as directed.

As an added attraction for this year’s car raffle, critically acclaimed Sharon Playhouse (https:// w ww.sharonpl ayhouse.org) is once again giving away a set of two tickets each week to a show on its summer schedule. This year’s schedule includes “Minor Character,” “Footloose,” Far Away,” and “The Music Man.”

Theater to hold annual charity golf tournament

THOMASTON » Landmark Community Theatre, the non-profit arts organizati­on which manages the historic Thomaston Opera House, will hold its 7th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday, June 29 at 11 a.m.

The event will talk place at Chippanee Country Club in Bristol, and includes 18 holes of golf, a barbeque lunch, cocktails, and a buffet dinner, as well as door prizes, contests, and an exciting raffle featuring many high quality gifts and certificat­es to local restaurant­s and stores.

Contests include: Longest Drive (Male and Female), Closest to Pin (Back 9/Front 9), Hole-in-One and others.

Registrant­s who pay by June 8 will be automatica­lly entered into a drawing to win a flat screen television.

Support allows LCT to continue in its mission to offer opportunit­ies where the community may produce, participat­e in, and enjoy the performing arts; to educate all ages in theater and music; and to preserve and protect the Opera House as a historic landmark and community space.
