City man charged with assaulting woman, cop

TORRINGTON » A city man was recently arrested after beating a woman and headbuttin­g an officer, according to the Torrington Police Department.

Adam S. Harper, 31, of 90 Terrace Drive, Torrington, was arrested June 3 and charged with second-degree breach of peace, third-degree assault, interferin­g with an officer/resisting arrest and assault of a public safety official. Officers responded to 90 Terrance Drive at approximat­ely 3:48 a.m. on June 2, according to a probable cause report. When they arrived, the saw the victim outside with an injury to her left ear and blood dripping down her face, police wrote in the report.

The victim told police she had been pushed, shoved and slapped numerous times by Harper, after she attempted to wake him up while he was passed out on the bathroom floor, according to the report.

Harper had come home drunk with a male friend, she told police.

Harper also assaulted an officer while being arrested, head-butting him and striking him above his right eye, according to the report.

“Harper also attempted to spit on (officers) so a spit mask was placed over his head and face to protect (officers),” police said.

Harper was held on a $10,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Bantam Superior Court on June 5.
