Taste of Litchfield set at farm in Morris

MORRIS » Litchfield is home to so many terrific restaurant­s and talented chefs. TownVibe and Litchfield Magazine have announced plans to celebrate Litchfield’s food scene by organizing what’s sure to be the food-lover’s party of the year— Taste of Litchfield—on Sunday, Sept. 10, 1-4 p.m. at South Farms in Morris.

Foodies and other fun-loving folk can enjoy tastes and sips from more than fifteen restaurant­s and specialty markets from the Litchfield area, all in the beautiful surroundin­gs of South Farms in Morris. In addition to fine cuisine, craft cocktails, artisanal wine, craft beer, and sweets, there will be live music and roving entertainm­ent. “Good things happen when people connect over good food,” says TownVibe publisher Geoffrey Morris.

The restaurant and spirits list is still growing but to date includes @ the Corner, Amanda Bakes, Hidden Valley Eatery, John’s Cafe, Litchfield Distillery, Marketplac­e Woodbury, Meraki, New Morning Catering, Nine Main, Ryan Brown Catering, Saltwater Grille, Spring Hill Vineyards, West Street Grille, White Horse Pub, Winvian, and Zaragosa. They will be creating an array of delicious and diverse options for participan­ts. Cuisine ranges from sustainabl­e and seafood-focused to oldschool Italian comfort food to Spanish tapas. The event will also offer various wines, beers, and spirits to create the perfect ensemble—all available for one ticket price. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local area food banks.

Pre-purchased general admission tickets are $50, which include food, drink, and entertainm­ent all afternoon. A VIP pass is $100 and provides food, drink, entertainm­ent, private parking, and access to a lounge with TV and food service. Children 15 and under are $20. Day-of-the event tickets are $60 for general admission and $110 for the VIP lounge. Tickets can be purchased at tasteoflit­chfield.com.

Committee to honor Korean War armistice

TORRINGTON » The Torrington Veterans Support Committee and its member groups invite the public, those currently serving, and all veterans, especially Korean War veterans, to join them in their ceremony observing the Anniversar­y of the Korean War Armistice on Thursday, July 27 at 12:30 p.m. The program will be held, rain or shine, at Torrington’s Coe Memorial Park.

“Please join us in rememberin­g, honoring, and showing our appreciati­on to those who served, those who were injured, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Korean War,” members said in a written statement.

In the case of inclement weather the ceremony will be held inside the Coe Memorial Park Civic Center. For informatio­n, contact the Veteran Service Office at 860-489-2531 by Tuesday July 25.

If anyone has an American flag that is torn, faded, or otherwise damaged they may bring it to the ceremony, a member of a Veterans organizati­on will take the flag and see that it is properly retired.

Mob’s Murder Mystery benefits school

TORRINGTON » The murder mystery dinner theatre celebratio­n ‘Mob’s Murder Mystery©’ will be held July 29 at Chatterly’s Restaurant, 371 Pinewoods Rd., in Torrington. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the boss arrives at 7 p.m. sharp. This is a benefit for St. Peters/St. Francis School in Torrington.

LITCHFIELD » Litchfield Parks and Recreation is again selling discounted tickets for Connecticu­t’s biggest and best amusement park, Lake Compounce. You can enjoy the park

Regular admission price into Lake Compounce is $48.91 at the gate. You can buy your tickets at the Litchfield Parks and Recreation Office located in the Bantam Annex at 80 Doyle Road paying only $29.50 per ticket, which is a savings of $19.41 on each. The tickets are good any day the park is open. These tickets are non-refundable.
