‘Booming’ book festival welcomes public Friday-Sunday

WINSTED » Ralph Nader’s second annual Booming Winsted Book Festival will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 21-23 at the bookstore on Main Street in Winsted. Hours are Friday, 7-9 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

There will be a raffle for an autographe­d copy of Ralph Nader’s book Unsafe at Any Speed and every purchase meeting or exceeding $40 will receive a $10 voucher for Noujaim’s Bistro.

The schedule of speakers is:

Friday, 7 p.m.: A celebratio­n of Dimitra Doukas’ book Democratiz­ing America: Shaf Nader and the Founding of the Impossible College. Speakers will include Claire Nader and Ralph Nader.

Saturday, 11 a.m.: David Daley on gerrymande­ring and his book, Ratf**ked: The True Story Behind the Secret Plan to Steal America’s Democracy

12:30 p.m.: Chuck Collins on Born on Third Base: A One Percenter Makes the Case for Tackling Inequality, Bringing Wealth Home, and Committing to the Common Good

2 p.m.: Steve Early on Refinery Town: Big Oil, Big Money, and the Remaking of an American City

Sunday, 12 p.m.: Beth Caruso on One of Windsor: The Untold Story of America’s First Witch Hanging

1:30 p.m.: Steve Alves on the developmen­t of local food systems and a workshop to help develop the Mad River Market. His documentar­y Food for Change, was shown in April.

Nader will introduce the authors and be present to sign his books and discuss his work.
