The original Broadway production of “Fiddler” opened in 1964 with Zero Mostel in the role of Tevyeh and ran for over 3,200 performances (900 were sold out) with Jerome Robbins holding the dual roles of director and choreographer. Winning 9 Tony Awards including Direction, Score, Book and Choreography the musical was followed by the highly successful film version in 1971 starring the Israeli born actor Topol and directed by Canadian Norman Jewison.
