ROUND TABLE MEETING CHANGE: The Connecticu­t Civil War Round Table will hold a special meeting on Saturday, July 22 at 2 p.m. at the home of Dane and Carol DeLeppo, 73 Hayden Rd., Harwinton: note the change in location. For directions, call co-chairs Blair and Mary Lou Pavlik at 860489-1618. Guest speaker is Edwin Bearss, director emeritus of the National Park Service and a foremost authority on the Civil War. His lecture is “The Myths of the Civil War.” Members are asked to bring a picnic and chairs for a picnic supper at 6 p.m., followed by the speaker. CHICKEN BARBECUE: The Winchester Center Congregati­onal Church will be holding a BBQ Chicken Dinner on July 22, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. The cost of the dinner is: reserved seating -$10 for adults, $5 for children 6-11 years and free under 5 years of age and $12 at the door. Meet at Squire’s Tavern, 100 East River Rd., Barkhamste­d, at 10 a.m. and join Paul Hart for a short hike and talk, with about a dozen stops along the trail where Paul will describe the way the area would have looked in the 1800s. Wear comfortabl­e shoes for the walk and dress appropriat­ely. The hike is about 1 mile long and should last about an hour and a half. Some of the terrain is on uneven ground.
