85th annual 4-H Fair returns Saturday, Sunday
GOSHEN » The 85th Annual Litchfield County 4-H Fair will open Saturday, July 29 at 8:30 a.m. at the Goshen Fairgrounds and will continue on Sunday, July 30.
This youth run fair presents the culmination of the projects of youth involved in local 4-H clubs located all around the county.
All year long, members attend meetings, clinics, and workshops to learn more about their projects.
They work with or on these projects throughout the year, and their hard work and dedication is revealed at this fair.
Projects include livestock exhibits, including beef and dairy cattle, swine, horses, sheep, goats, poultry, dogs, rabbits, and reptiles.
Members may also present their textile/clothing, crafts, arts, or photography projects, and some also show their food and gardening exhibits as well.
Most clubs put together a club exhibit, which has a theme for this year of “4-H in One Word.”
On Saturday night, there will be a benefit auction, and on Sunday, members will host an event for local legislators will be held.
Gates are open to the public beginning at 8:30 a.m. both days.

According to its mission statement on its website, 4-H is delivered by Cooperative Extension, which is a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation that provides experiences where young people learn by doing.
Children complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles.
Members experience 4-H in every county and parish in the country— through in-school and after-school programs, school and community clubs and 4-H camps.
