TORRINGTON » A city woman was recently arrested and charged with possession and intent to sell crack cocaine after the narcotic was found in her apartment, according to police.

Susan Beyer, 53, of 711 East Main St., Apartment B3, Torrington, was arrested July 28 and was also charged with possession of heroin, possession in a school zone and use of drug paraphernalia.

Officers responded to an apartment building on East Main Street for reports of suspicious people and noises coming from the main floor, according to a probable cause report.

Officers made contact with Beyer, who said she did hear noises and allowed police entry into her apartment, police said. Once inside, police allegedly saw a small knotted clear plastic bag that contained a white chunk substance in plain view on a small table.

“Also observed on the table was a glass smoking pipe with burnt residue and a narcotics ledger,” police wrote in the report.

Beyer told police that there were more bags in a drawer adjacent to the table, police said.

“A check of the bureau drawer confirmed several more bags containing a white chunk substance. Cash was also located in said drawer,” police wrote in the report.

Officers also found materials for packing narcotics for sale, drug paraphernalia and “several wax bags of a white powdery substance” later determined to be heroin.

The white chunk substance was later identified as crack cocaine, according to police.

Beyer told police that the narcotics found belonged to her, according to the report.

She was held in lieu of $25,000 police-set surety bail.
