Friends of Music’s summer festival wraps up Friday

WASHINGTON » In front of record audiences The New Baroque Soloists have been performing at the Summer Concert Festival of Washington Friends of Music for the last three Fridays.

The fourth and final concert of the series will be held Friday 5:30 p.m. at the Historic Meetinghou­se on the Washington Green, 6 Kirby Road.

Ten members of the chamber orchestra will play works by Bach, Handel, Telemann, and Quantz.

Douglas Myers, the Artistic Director of The New Baroque Soloists, has written many of the arrangemen­ts. Mr. Myers is specialize­d in the trumpet and horn parts of the Baroque; he will be featured playing these instrument­s.

Two musicians of the group are also members of the Metropolit­an Opera Orchestra. Violist Vincent Lionti, back after his brief engagement with the Bolshoi Ballet Orchestra at Lincoln Center, and cellist Samuel Magill.

Each piece is introduced by one of the performers, providing insights on the composer, the instrument, and the historical context.

The audience is invited to a reception with the musicians after the concert with bubbly and snacks.

The concert house is air-conditione­d and handicappe­d accessible. Tickets are $20 for first-time guests, $25 in advance, $30 at the door, $10 for students. Children are welcome and admitted free of charge.
