Auditions set for ‘Avenue Q’ production

-

TORRINGTON » The Warner Stage Company will hold auditions for a Main Stage Musical Production of AVENUE Q on Monday ad Tuesday, Aug. 21-22 at 7 p.m. All auditions are by appointment. The production is directed by Katherine Ray with Dan Koch as music director and Peggy Terhune as choreographer. It will be presented in November.

All roles are open to audition. The stage company is seeking a multi-ethnic ensemble of strong singer/ actors for this production. Callbacks, if needed, will be held Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Due to the nature of the material contained within the show, everyone who is auditioning must be at least 18 years old prior to the first rehearsal.

Auditioners must bring sheet music with them and be prepared to sing 32 bars, but no more than one minute, of a fully memorized Broadway style song that showcases their vocal range and in a style that is consistent with the character you are auditioning for. This should be something that you are very comfortable with, not something you just learned the day before. It is important that you perform your song, not just stand and deliver.

Auditioners should mark their selection with a highlighter. An accompanist will be provided. No a cappella singing, instrumentals on CD, Tape, iPod, MP3 Player or digital recorder are allowed.

Auditioners may also be asked to read from the script and perform a brief dance combination that will be taught at the audition.

Rehearsals will be held three times per week on Sundays from 2:00-5:00pm, Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 7:00-10:00pm beginning Tuesday, August 29th. Tech week rehearsals will be Sunday through Thursday, Oct. 29 –Nov. 2. Friday, Nov. 3 should be held in case an additional tech week rehearsal is needed. The pickup rehearsal will be held on Nov. 8. Those who are unable to make the mandatory tech week rehearsals and/or pickup rehearsal will not be cast. The Warner Stage Company is a regional community theatre company and does not offer compensation or housing for performers.

Visit www.warnertheatre.org/auditions and fill out the on-line audition request form or send an email to auditions@warnertheatre.org to schedule an appointment. An audition confirmation e-mail will be sent with full details on what will be expected. Appointments requested online or by email are preferred, but if you do not have access to e-mail call the Warner Theatre Audition Line at 860-489-7180 ext. 151. Be specific as to the date you would like to schedule your appointment.

Performance dates are Nov. 4-5 and Nov. 10-12 with evening and matinee shows. The story is a puppet-filled comedy that follows a group of twentysomethings seeking their purpose in big-city life.

Winner of the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart. The laugh-outloud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that, although the residents seem nice, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life. Filled with gutbusting humor and a delightfully catchy score, not to mention puppets,

Avenue Q is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere. Although the show addresses humorous adult issues, it is similar to a beloved children’s show; a place where puppets are friends, Monsters are good and life lessons are learned.
