SHREK THE MUSICAL: See Shrek the Musical at the Warner Theatre’s Nancy Marine Studio Theatre, Torrington, Friday, Aug. 18, 6 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 19, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Seating is limited. Everyone’s favorite ogre is back in this hilarious stage spectacle, based on the Oscar-winning smash hit film and outrageous Broadway musical and performed by our talented students of the Warner Theatre Center for Arts Education’s Summer Arts Program. SUMMER CONCERT: The Torrington Parks and Recreation Department Summer Concert Series scheduled for Friday, Aug. 18 WITH Whiskey, Wine & Coke, has been reschedule­d to Tuesday, August 22, 7-9 p.m. at Coe Memorial Park.

FIREMAN’S CARNIVAL: Winsted’s annual fireman’s carnival will be held Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16-19 on Rowley Field in Winsted. The carnival features, food including Tower 1 famous fried dough, a beer garden, dunk tank, rides, games, bingo, blower ball, and live music. A DJ will play music on Friday and Saturday night. Wrist band night is Wednesday and fireworks will be held on Friday night. One of the last parades of the season will be held on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. down Main Street.

ARTIST RECEPTION: A reception for the Harwinton Library’s featured artist, Liz Spring, will be held Aug. 18, 5:30-7 p.m. at the library. The public is welcome. KINDERGART­EN SOCIAL: A Kindergart­en Social for children entering kindergart­en in the fall will be held Aug. 18, 10:30 a.m. at the Oliver Wolcott Library, Litchfield. TRAIL SYSTEM CLOSED: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, Thomaston Dam, recently announced that the Thomaston Dam trail system will be temporaril­y closed to public riding on Friday Aug. 18, Saturday Aug. 19 and Sunday Aug. 20 for a Netra/AMA event weekend. Motorcycle Hare Scramble events will occur on both Saturday and Sunday. Two youth classes will compete on Saturday and two adult classes will compete on Sunday. While public riding is not permitted, visitors are welcome as spectators. Otherwise, the dirt bike riding area is open through Columbus Day.

SALISBURY MARKET: The new Salisbury Farmers Market will be held every Saturday morning, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on the lawn at the Scoville Library, with an array of vegetables, meats, cheeses, rustic breads, jams, vinegar and plants plus occasional guest appearance­s by chefs and other food producers. Markets continue weekly through October.
