Whigville Grange plans farmland preservation forum
BURLINGTON » The Whigville Preservation Group (WPG) will present a Public Forum on Preservation & Conservation on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 7-9 p.m. at the Whigville Grange, 153 South Main St., Burlington. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
Panelists will include Amy Paterson, CT Land Conservation Council; Elizabeth Moore, CT Farmland Trust; U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty; State Rep. John Piscopo; Ted Shafer, Burlington First Selectman; and Paul Rochford, Burlington Land Trust.
“We are looking forward to hearing from public policymakers, and the experts who put those policies into action, about the ways in which scenic open space can be saved,” said Patti Smaldone, leader of the Whigville Preservation Group. “Whigville has an increasingly unique agricultural character that we hope can be preserved for future generations.”
The panelists will be given a tour of Whigville prior to the forum, from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
“Our community is one of the last pristine examples of southern New England’s agrarian heritage,” Smaldone said. “Whigville is defined by the small farms that have been lovingly cared for by the same families for generations.”
