Recalls this week: boots, crawfish kits

More than 30,000 Dr. Martens boosts are being recalled because wearers can be exposed to the chemical benzidine, which is carcinogen­ic.

Here’s a more detailed look:

BOOTS

DETAILS: Dr. Martens unisex Vegan 1460 eight eye boots sold in cherry red with black shoelaces in all sizes. The boots have a chunky sole and a golden heel pull tab with “AirWair” printed on it. “Made in Vietnam” and product code 14585 are printed on the tongue label with the batch code starting with “GV” and ending in Q, R or S. They were sold at Dr. Martens, Journeys and independen­t stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, DrMartens.com, Shoebuy. com and other websites from January 2015 through July 2017. WHY: Prolonged and direct contact with the boot tongue lining can expose the wearer to the chemical benzidine.

INCIDENTS: None reported.

CRAWFISH KITS

DETAILS: Academy Sports + Outdoors Outdoor Gourmet 100-Quart Crawfish kit with strainer which is an outdoor appliance used to cook crawfish and other seafood in a 100-quart pot. The Crawfish kit includes a hose assembly that connects the burner component to an external LP fuel tank supplied by the consumer. Model number FSOGBG4201 is printed on the silver label located on the burner component. They were sold at Academy Sports + Outdoors stores and at Academy.com from March 2014 through May 2017

WHY: The crawfish kit hose can melt and/or burn, posing a fire hazard.

INCIDENTS: 14 reports of hoses melting or catching fire. No injuries or property damage have been reported.

HOW MANY: About 21,000 in the U.S. and about 17 in Canada.

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

DETAILS: Nutrilife Plant Products one gallon/four liter bottles of hydrogen peroxide (H202) liquid 29-percent oxidizer which is used as a source of oxygen for water, a preservati­ve for fresh cut flowers, and to keep unwanted nutrient residuals clear in reservoirs, drippers and dripper lines. The plastic bottles are white with a blue/green label with a handle at the top. The Nutrilife logo, H202, Liquid 29% Oxidizer and “An Oxygen Source for Water” are printed on the front label. Open and closing instructio­ns are printed on the bottle caps with indented lettering. It was sold at plant food and hydroponic stores nationwide from November 2016 through July 2017.

WHY: The bottle caps on the 29% hydrogen peroxide one-gallon bottles do not vent properly and can allow pressure to build up in the bottle and cause it to expand and rupture, posing fire and burn hazards.

INCIDENTS: One report of a fire resulting in minor property damage.

HOW MANY: About 11,800 in the U.S. and about 3,500.

MOUNTAINEE­RING BOOTS

DETAILS: Arc’teryx Procline ski mountainee­ring boots sold in the following models: Procline carbon support boot, Procline carbon lite boot. The boots were sold in one color, cayenne (orange)/ black and in men’s sizes 7½ to 14 and women’s sizes

6 to 10½ (MONDO sizes 23-30.5). “Arc’teryx” is located on the front of the boot; Men’s Procline support boot, and Men’s Procline lite boot. The boots were sold in one color, grey/black and in sizes 7½ to 14 (MONDO sizes 25-30.5). “Arc’teryx” is located on the front of the boot; Women’s Procline lite boot, and Women’s Procline support boot. The boots were sold in one color, euphoria (yellow)/black and in sizes 6 to 10½ (MONDO sizes 23 — 27.5). “Arc’teryx” is located on the front of the boot. They were sold at ski and outdoor specialty stores such as Moosejaw and REI nationwide and online at Arcteryx.com and retailer websites such as Moosejaw. com and REI.com from April 2016 through March 2017.

WHY: The axis pin located at the rear of the boot can dislodge, resulting in damage to the boot and posing a fall hazard.

INCIDENTS: 18 reports of the axis pin dislodging. No injuries have been reported.

HOW MANY: About 3,900 in the U.S. and about 500 in Canada.
