Man facing child porn possession charge
WINSTED » A former town resident has been charged with firstdegree possession of child pornography.
Mitchell T. Wimmer, 25, of 503 Allatoona Hills Drive, Woodstock, G.A., was arrested earlier this month by Winsted police and arraigned last week on the charge, according to court documents.
The investigation was sparked by an image uploaded to the social network Instagram in September 2014 from a Winstedbased IP address, according to an affidavit seeking a warrant for Wimmer’s arrest. The address and corresponding account information was found to link back to a Hinsdale Avenue home.
A search- and- seizure warrant was executed at the home, leading to the collection of a series of computers, according to
the affidavit.
A December 2015 report by the Connecticut Computer Crimes Electronic Evidence Lab noted hundreds of suspected child pornography images on two computers seized from Wimmer’s bedroom, according to the affidavit.
More than 100 images of children engaging in sexually explicit conduct were ultimately identified by Winsted police on an evidentiary disk, according to the affidavit.
An officer went to the Hinsdale Avenue home in May 2017 in search of the
Wimmer family after reviewing the contents of the disk, according to the affidavit. However, they no longer lived there.
The Wimmer family was found to be living in Woodstock, Georgia, and Wimmer was contacted in May 2017, according to the af-
fidavit. He was arrested Aug. 17 after turning himself in on an active warrant and released on $100,000 bail, according to Winchester police.
He was arraigned Aug. 21 in Bantam Superior Court and his case was transferred to Litchfield
Superior Court. Wimmer is next scheduled to appear in court Sept. 8.
He has not yet entered a plea to this charge.
First-degree possession of child pornography is considered a Class B felony in Connecticut.
