Registrati­on open for Miles 4 Moe 5K walk/run

TORRINGTON » The Miles 4 Moe Foundation will present its eighth annual 5K Walk/Run to be held on Sunday, Sept. 17. The foundation continues the legacy of Emil “Moe” Renzullo, by supporting organizati­ons such as Camp MOE that provide an outdoor camp experience to children with and without disabiliti­es. The foundation also supports families who have a child diagnosed with cancer, as well as hospitals and organizati­ons that treat these children.

The Harvest Fest 5K will start and finish at Camp MOE (1145 Brandy Hill Road, Torrington) and consists of paved and gravel roads with rolling hills and fall foliage views. Both runners and walkers are welcome. Onsite registrati­on will be from 8:30 – 9:45 AM. The race will begin at 10 a.m. Participan­ts can also register online at www.lightbnoxr­eg.com or can download and mail the registrati­on form from www.miles4moef­oundation.org. Finishers will be greeted at the finish line by announcer Dan Lovallo. The race will be timed by Fast Track Timing.

Norfolk Land Trust to hold annual race

NORFOLK » The Norfolk Land Trust will host a 5K- and 10K-trail race Sunday, Sept. 24 with the start and finish for both races at the Barbour Woods trailhead at 75 Lovers Lane. The 10K race kicks off at noon. Runners will follow the classic 5K route for a mile and then branch off toward Haystack Mountain. Runners will ascend the mountain, loop around the tower and then descend to the park’s main entrance to finish the run through Barbour Woods.

The classic 5K, which starts at 12:30, features a mixture of single and double track through historic Barbour Woods. Pre-registrati­on is $15 and is available at www.ultrasignu­p.com or at bit.ly/NLTtrailra­ce2017. Registrati­on is $20 the day of the race. Registrati­on will be capped at 100 runners for each race. A postrace awards party will be at Infinity Hall Bistro and all runners will receive a Big Elm Brewing beer glass and a cup of chili.

Bank to hold seminar on consumer fraud

LAKEVILLE » Salisbury Bank, in partnershi­p with Noble Horizons, is offering a seminar which will focus on consumer fraud crimes and how to avoid becoming a victim. This program will look inside the mind of a criminal, focus on the psychology behind consumer fraud crimes and offer ways to protect you and your loved ones from becoming victims.

Presenters for this program will include Erica Michalowsk­i, AARP Connecticu­t’s Associate Director for Community Outreach. Alongside Erica, will be Detective Mark Solomon, Chapter President for the Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Financial Crimes Investigat­ors. Detective Solomon has also been assigned to the CT Financial Crimes Task Force, a federal task force run by the U.S. Secret Service that focuses on large-scale financial and cyber-criminal activities.

The seminar will be held Sept. 14, 12 p.m. at Noble Horizons Community Room, 17 Cobble Road, Salisbury.

Golf tournament benefits cancer center

WATERTOWN » The third annual Watertown Police Department Charity Golf Tournament known as “Teeing Off for the Leever Center,” will be held on Friday, Oct. 6. Members are accepting registrati­on for golfers which include golf, gifts, breakfast, lunch, cocktail hour and dinner. Tickets are also available for dinner for non-golfers. The tournament committee members are also looking for support from the community and businesses for various levels of sponsors and raffle prizes.
