City takes part in Discover CT bike ride
TORRINGTON » Every year Bike Walk CT partners with communities to host a Discover CT bike ride series.
These events are promoted statewide and attract between 100-200 people of varied age and ability. This year Torrington is one of three communities chosen to host a Discover CT bike ride.
This event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, starting and ending at Coe Memorial Park on Litchfield Street, Torrington. The event has something for the avid rider as well as for families who would like to participate in the event. Some of the activities will include three routes for riders to choose from, a 12, 27 and 52-mile route; a kid’s “bike rodeo” which is a fun event geared toward teaching young children bike safety by a certified trainers; and entertainment provided by On Deck Studios and past Northwest Idol winners.
Organizers said, “It is likely that a majority of the participants will be from out of town. This gives us the perfect opportunity to show off all the amazing businesses and attractions Torrington has to offer. This is done through sponsorship opportunities that are available for any business, nonprofit, or person to take advantage of. As you will see, there are multiple levels of sponsorship, each with promotional incentives, starting as low as $100. Sponsorships can be good ol’ cash or in-kind donations. Some example of in-kind donations are: A restaurant may give a coupon for free drink to all participants; someone may want to donate water for one of the rest stops; or give a coupon of some sort to incentive participants to come to your restaurant/ store. Also, if you are having an event on that day, or would like to plan an event for that day, let us know and we will be sure to put flyers in the giveaways to all participants.”
The event has something for the avid rider as well as for families who would like to participate in the event.
All proceeds will be used to support Bike Walk CT’s mission. Any local sponsorships will be used specifically in Torrington to help promote/improve walking and cycling in Torrington.
