Book talk, reception celebrates Ripley biography

LITCHFIELD » The Litchfield Historical Society and the Livingston Ripley Waterfowl Conservanc­y invite the public for a book talk and reception on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. with Roger D. Stone, author of the newly-released biography, “The Lives of Dillon Ripley.”

The event will be held at the Litchfield History Museum, in Litchfield.

This new, full-length biography gives insight into the amazing life and achievemen­ts of Sidney Dillon Ripley, II, an American ornitholog­ist, wildlife conservati­onist, and the founder of the Livingston Ripley Waterfowl Conservanc­y. He was also the eighth Secretary of the Smithsonia­n from 1964 to 1984 and spent almost 20 years teaching at Yale University. The Litchfield Historical Society and the Livingston Ripley Waterfowl Conservanc­y are pleased to jointly-host the talk and reception. Copies of the book will be available to purchase at the event from The Hickory Stick Bookshop.

The event is free and open to the public. Space is limited and registrati­on is required.
