It’s official: Sidney Wilson is a Husky.

The 6-foot-7 wing, who left St. John’s early last week, has transferred to UConn and is enrolled for the 2017 fall semester.

“We are happy and excited to welcome Sid to the UConn family,” UConn coach Kevin Ollie said in a release. “He is an outstanding player and a high-character young man, who has the kind of talent, versatility and athleticism that we want in our program.”

Since he took summer courses at St. John’s, Wilson is considered a freshman transfer student and will have to sit out the 2017-

18 men’s basketball season. However, he and his father, Sidney, Sr., told Hearst Connecticut Media last week that the school is in the process of applying for a waiver that would allow Wilson to play immediately.

“We have complete confidence that our compliance staff at UConn will work hand-in- hand with the NCAA to determine Sid’s status,” said Ollie. “I know that whatever situation Sid faces, he will tackle with hard work and dedication. We’re looking forward to a tremendous career for him at UConn.”

Said Wilson: “If I can’t (get a waiver), I’m still excited to get down to Storrs, have a great season and root on my teammates.”

Wilson played at St. Raymond’s High in the Bronx, but transferred to Brewster Academy last year after his mother, Pauline, passed away. He was originally in the Class of 2018 but reclassified last spring before committing to St. John’s in May.

However, Wilson was unhappy at St. John’s virtually from the start of summer school, and ultimately opted to transfer. He told Hearst Connecticut Media last week that he chose UConn because of “my relationship with the coaching staff. Before I committed to St. John’s, I had a good feeling on my visit (to UConn) in early May. Coach Ollie wanted me just as much as before, once he found out I was transferring. That’s probably the biggest thing for me. He feels like even if I sit out a year, I can still get better.”
