Children’s cooking classes to begin

WOODBURY — Flanders is cooking up something special for young chefs at in a series of cooking classes being held to encourage their discovery and appreciati­on of local and farm fresh products and instructio­n on how to prepare fresh ingredient­s creatively to make delicious, nutritious foods. Children will learn more about science, food and health during this hands on experience. The menu will vary at each class with fun topics such as jam and jelly making, preparing healthy cookies and “camouflagi­nged” vegetables all on the menu.being planned.

There will be a total of six Wednesday classes offered for grades 1-5, Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25, Nov. 1 and 8. There will also be three Tuesday cooking classes offered for grades 6-8 which will be held Oct. 3, 10, and 17. All classes run from 3:30-5 p.m.

Topics will be age appropriat­e, class sizes are limited and the young chefs well supervised.

The fee for the program is $20 per class per student chef. Students can be dropped off by their parents at the Van Vleck house located at 5 Church Hill Road in Woodbury, where the cooking classes will take place, or take advantage of the arrangemen­ts made with the Region 14 bus company to have students be dropped off from their schools to Flanders by school bus.
