Alfano Nissan to continue history at new Winsted Road location
TORRINGTON – The Alfano family and Alfano Nissan will enter a new chapter of their long history of association with the city as they take up residence at 525 Winsted Road.
General Manager Jon Alfano said Thursday that the new dealership offers advantages over the previous space on East Main Street, including a drive-in service area, allowing patrons to visit without being exposed to the elements, and an upgraded waiting area.
“It's a big accomplishment for me and my family,” Alfano said. “We're all really excited about it.”
The new location is easier to access than the former spot on East Main Street, Sales Manager Kit Nan said. There are multiple entrances and exits to the complex, and the flow of traffic is lighter, Nan said.
The move had been under consideration for a few years, Nan and Alfano said.
Alfano Nissan is also aiming to give back to the community as part of the move, Alfano and Nan said. They recently made a donation to Torrington High School, the Torrington Warriors football team, and are also planning to donate a portion of upcoming sales to the Connecticut Children's Hospital, they said.
It was a pleasure to give back, they said. Alfano said he went to Torrington High School, and Nan noted that a number of the dealership employees had roots in the city.
“(We want to) just let the community know that we care," Alfano said.
“We're a product of our environment. So our success, we have to attribute it, at least some of that, to Torrington and the school and where we grew up," Nan said. “It's nice to stay in business here and give back. ... what we've gained."
The Alfano family has been a part of the city community for more than 60 years, Nan said.
Nan said there was a family environment within the Alfano dealerships. He's been working for the family, which also owns a Hyundai dealership in the city, for 11 years.
“It's a great team here. Everybody works together for the same common goal, which is to serve our customers and get repeat business,” Nan said.

The dealership is planning a Grand Opening celebration over the weekend, with free food, raffles and special offers.
Mayor Elinor Carbone is scheduled to appear at the dealership Saturday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m.
