TORRINGTON — The Town Fair Tire at 705 Main St. is set to expand in the near future, after the Planning and Zoning Commission approved the plan earlier this month.

The tire shop, set to the far side of the complex featuring Ocean State Job Lot and PriceRite on Main Street, will expand into the current home of Frazier's Laundromat and Cleaners next door.

This will add nearly 3,000 square feet of space to the current 6,004-square-foot location, according to a memo from City Planner Martin Connor to the zoning commission.

The move will allow for the installation of new service bays and create more storage space, architect Peter Ricci told the Architectural Review Committee earlier this month.

The customer service area will be relocated, and deliveries will be able to be accepted in the rear of the building, Connor wrote in the memo. After the shift, tires will be able to be received in the back instead of taken in through the front entrance, Ricci said.

The Town Fair Tire location has been in operation since 1987, according to the company website. It features tires for sale as well as service related to tires like alignment, tire rotation, flat-tire repair and winter tire changeover.

Frazier's Laundromat and Cleaners will relocate down the complex to 683 Main St., next door to Ocean State Job Lot, Ricci said. This will provide more space for the business, he said.

"I think it's going to be a home run for the center — both of them," said Ricci.

Connor said Tuesday the laundromat’s move did not have to be approved by the commission, but was instead done administratively.
