Society presents WWI program

-

TORRINGTON — The Torrington Historical Society will host the second program in a two-part presentation about World War I, presented by Todd Bryda, history professor and scholar, on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 6:30 p.m. in the Carriage House Gallery, Torrington Historical Society, 192 Main St. The public is encouraged to attend.

One hundred years ago, in 2017, the United States entered The Great War. This war had a profound impact on the country and the rest of the world, yet to this day, many people do not fully understand World War I.

Bryda’s presentation will focus on the U.S. after it entered the war in 1917. In addition to learning about the role of President Woodrow Wilson and the U.S. as we entered the war, this program will also discuss the peace that the leading powers sought to impose on the world. Discover how the treaties signed in France at the end of the war are still having an effect on us today.

Todd Bryda is a full-time history professor at Northwestern Connecticut Community College where he has been teaching since 1999. Prior to that, he taught at several other schools including Southern Vermont College in Bennington. Professor Bryda received his M.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Torrington Historical Society members are free; there is a suggested donation of $2 for nonmembers. For information on becoming a member, visit www.torringtonhistoricalsociety.org.
