NEW CHESS CLUB: A new group, the Litchfield County Chess Club, meets Thursdays at the Torrington Library, 12 Daycoeton Place, Torrington, from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Thursdays. DRUMMING FOR PEACE: Drumming for Peace at sunset on the evening of the full moon takes place at Church of Christ Congregati­onal, 5 Old Middle Street, at the intersecti­on of Routes 4 and 63 in Goshen. Participan­ts may bring their own drums or use the drums and rhythm instrument­s that will be provided. Any type of hand drum may be used. FALL FOLIAGE FESTIVAL: Saturday, October 7 is the 20th annual Fall Foliage Festival in Winsted. SCOVILLE FOR CHILDREN: Scoville for Children at the Fall Festival on the Front Lawn, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday. Scoville will join SOAR, the Salisbury Central School Enrichment Program at a Pop-Up Crafts Center featuring a variety of autumnal crafts for kids. The library will feature a print-making craft taking natural objects and printing them onto envelopes and cards. Free.

VETERAN OF THE MONTH: American Legion Post 44 of Bantam will honor United States Marine Staff Sergeant Walter L. Hunt, formerly of Bethlehem, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. at the All Wars Memorial Route 202 (Bantam Cemetery) in Bantam. In case of inclement weather the ceremony will be held in the Bantam Borough Hall, 809 Bantam Road (Route 202) in Bantam. The public is welcome. PIG ROAST: Eureka Grange hosts its Annual Pig Roast on Saturday, Oct. 7, 5-6:30 p.m. at Eureka Grange Hall, 777 Litchfield Turnpike (Route 202), in the Nepaug section of New Hartford. The meal is buffet style, featuring all the homemade trimmings including baked potato, stuffing, macaroni salad, green salad, mixed vegetables, rolls and butter and a hot or cold beverage, as well as a selection of delicious desserts. $15 for adults, $8 for children age 6 to 10, and free for 5 and under.
