COLUMBUS DAY CELEBRATIO­N: Torrington’s annual Columbus Day Celebratio­n will be held Oct. 12, 8:30 a.m. at Columbus Square with a laying of the wreath and guest speakers. A ceremony at Coe Memorial Park’s Civic Center begins at 9 a.m. and includes raising the Italian Flag and the National Anthem, followed by proclamati­ons by local and state officials, and a citation to Italian Mayor of the Day, Joseph Raymond Barbieri. CENTENNIAL EVENT: The Friends of Main Street, the Winchester Economic Developmen­t Commission, the Winchester Historical Society, and the Winsted Schools, invite all to celebrate the Winsted Centennial. Winsted was officially recognized by the State of Connecticu­t as a city in 1917 and to commend that event, a time capsule will be buried on the grounds of the Winchester Historical Society on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. The capsule is to be opened in 2067.
