Come to a yarn tasting party

- By Ginger Balch Virginia (Ginger) Balch knits, weaves and spins in all things “fibery” at her shop In Sheep’s Clothing at 10 Water St. Torrington www.in-sheeps-clothing.com or call 860-482-3979.

Fiber lovers will get the opportunity to test or “taste” a varied selection of yarns that include Noro, Louisa Harding, Juniper Farms Yarns & more, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 28-29 from 1-3 p.m.

Knitters and crocheters can also sample these yummy yarns on the equally luxurious Lykke brand needles. There will also be a trunk show of knitted garments and accessories to better illustrate how these lovely yarns look once they are worked up.

Each guest will receive a “tasty” yarn sampler to work from, and take them home at the end of the party. There will be a nice selection of patterns that work with the yarns offered for sampling.

This is the place to be if you’ve been wanting to try out Louisa Harding’s, Amitola, and her big sister, Amitola Grande, a decadent multi colored silk and wool blend.

If you live to work with color, you can look forward to trying out Noro’s Silk Garden and Kureyon. In the fiber world the name Noro stands for color. Each yarn sampler will come with an information sheet on all the yarns included as well as some simple stitch patterns for sampling.

Participants will enjoy door prizes of yarn, patterns and knitting needles. In Sheep’s Clothing’s signature “sheepy” sugar cookies baked by First Act Bakery will be one of the refreshments on the menu. Specially priced kits will be available during both parties.

Seating is limited, with tickets $7 in advance and $12 at the door if space remains. Please call ahead to reserve your spot, at 860-482-3979.
