GOV. WILBUR CROSS: As part of its series of lectures about the 1930s, the Minor Memorial Library is presenting a program on the Progressive Movement in Connecticut on Thursday, Oct. 19. Eugene Leach, retired Trinity College professor, will present “Governor Wilbur Cross in Depression Connecticut: New Deal or Reshuffle?” which will address the ways in which Connecticut responded to the challenges of the Great Depression. LUNCH AND LEARN: At the League of Women Voters of Litchfield County’s next Lunch and Learn program, Oct. 19 at noon, the topic of civil discourse will be discussed, as well as how to hold civil conversations with those with whom we disagree, and reflect on how we might shape our comments so that they demonstrate respect for both political parties. The meeting will be held at the Oliver Wolcott Library, 160 South St., Litchfield.

ART BOMB: David M. Hunt Library will host Connecticut Academy for The Arts’ Art Bomb! TRUNK OR TREAT: The city of Torrington Parks & Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Torrington Lions Club and the Torrington Municipal & Teachers Federal Credit Union will be hosting a Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, Oct. 21, 4-6 p.m. on Main Street in Downtown Torrington. Anyone interested in participating should arrive on Main Street at 2:30 p.m .to decorate their vehicle. Trunk or Treat vehicle registration forms are available at the Parks and Recreation Department until all spaces are filled. Children under 15 are encouraged to wear their costumes to the event as they go trunk or treating. The event will also feature hayrides, stilt-walker, open suitcase circus station, deejay with music, and more.
