Why I’m running for re-election

-

To the Editor:

Many have asked me why I seek reelection to the Winchester Board of Selectmen as a petitioning candidate and not a Republican candidate. The answer is simple, really.

I believe that my allegiance is to the citizens of Winsted and not to a political party. I still hold conservative Republican core values, but I realize that moving Winchester in a positive direction is much more important than a letter after my name. I am accountable to all of the citizens of Winchester, not just half of them or to a party chairperson.

I believe that things in town aren't perfect, but they are getting better. If we focus on the negative, all the bad things, where do we go? We stay in a downward spiral. We must focus on the positive.

I was raised with simple values, and to appreciate the things that are good. Things that I learned from my time in office and from my father during his time in office: to be honest, to act with integrity, to exhibit character, to know the difference between right and wrong, and choose to do right, even when it is the more difficult path.

These are the principles I strive to have, to bring to Winchester. When you realize that the things that unite us are much greater than the things that divide us you move the town ahead. When we work together, when we look to the future, we act in the best interests of Winchester and when we leave silly and petty party politics at the door, Winchester wins and we all win.

These last two years have been a learning experience. I have sat on a board that has put aside political differences and learned to work together.

We have accomplished so much. We have moved ahead with the clean up and sale of the former Lambert Kay property, now known as Winsted Edge Works. Mad River Lofts, Five Elements Robotics, Hunny Buns Café & Bakery, Foxtail Fine Catering and Café, Rowley Grill and Tap and the Henny Penny Convenience store currently under construction are just some of the exciting things happening in Winsted.

I believe that we are turning the corner and good things are happening in Winsted. I believe that good things will continue to happen in Winsted. This is why I ask for your vote on Nov. 7. — Todd Arcelaschi, Winsted
