Region 10 superintendent apologizes for video
Region 10 Superintendent Alan Beitman apologized in a letter to the towns in his district for his participation in a 2012 video, ahead of reports sharing the information with the public.
“I am sure my participation had the unfortunate effect of lending legitimacy to this inappropriate attempt at humor, thereby compromising the judgment of other Region 10 employees who appeared in the video,” Beitman said in the letter sent Friday. “It was a lapse in judgment to agree to participate in the video.”
According to a report from NBC Connecticut, the video in question features Beitman interacting with a female staff member.
According to the report, Beitman, while role playing, asks the female, who is wearing a miniskirt, “You're heading home I take it?”
She responds, “Yeah, totally. I'm going home. One of the dads wanted me to come over.”
The video was shown to employees at an end-of-the-year celebration that was referred to as a “stress reliever,” according to the report.
The Region 10 Board of Education has begun an investigation and hired an attorney to review the matter, according to NBC Connecticut.
“I regret being part of this embarrassing film clip and apologize for tarnishing the dignified office of Superintendent of Schools. I am and continue to be very proud of the ten (10) plus years of dedicated service given in Region 10 and ask for your continued support,” Beitman said in the letter. “I apologize to you, the students, and the entire school community.”
Beitman was hired as the Region 10 superintendent in January 2008, according to past reporting.
