Winsted artist joins ‘Unbound’ exhibit

-

NEW HAVEN — River Street Gallery in New Haven is showcasing the work of more than 40 fiber artists from the tristate area, in an exhibition “Unbound,” with an opening reception on Saturday Nov. 4, 5-8 p.m. Among the works on display will be unconventional basketry, woven sculptures and wall hangers by Winsted artist Tina Puckett from Whiting Mills. Also there will be hooked rugs, bead- and paper-weavings, felted wool vessels, traditional quilts, and unique sculptural pieces. The artists represented are members of the Surface Design Association, an international organization dedicated to sustaining traditional techniques in the textile arts as well as encouraging radical new ways of exploring the use of fiber in art.

Award-winning artist-curator Nancy Moore describes Unbound as “a celebration of what's possible when brilliant minds and creative hands combine to explore the limits of fiber in its many forms. I’m very excited about this exceptional show, which is geared not just toward collectors and art appreciators but also those who are looking for one-of-a-kind gifts during the holiday season and beyond.” The show will be on display through Jan. 7.

River Street Gallery, an expansive, loft-like showroom, displays fine art and craft in combination with artisan-made furniture. It is located within Fair Haven Furniture at 72 Blatchley Avenue, New Haven. To reach the gallery call 203-776-3099.
