VETERANS CAR WASH: Swell’s Car Wash will be offering veterans and active military personnel a free car wash in recognitio­n of Veterans Day, as it has for the last 8 years, Monday through Saturday, Nov. 6-11. VETERANS APPRECIATI­ON: Northweste­rn Connecticu­t Community College’s chapter of the internatio­nal honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, will be holding a Veteran’s Appreciati­on Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 10, 3 p.m. in the Veteran’s Oasis (White Building), on the NCCC campus. Student veterans will receive service flags as a gift from the Honors Society. The flags will then be permanentl­y displayed in the Veteran’s Oasis. CELEBRATIO­N OF VETERANS: Lewis S. Mills High School is hosting its annual Celebratio­n of Veterans program on Friday, November 10th, 2017. Luncheon will be from 12-1 p.m., followed by an assembly in the auditorium from 1-2 p.m. All Burlington and Harwinton veterans are invited to attend. During the day, residents are invited to view LSM students’ artwork displayed in the main lobby and adjacent hallway. VETERANS DAY: The Torrington Veterans Support Committee, and its member groups, invites the public, current military personnel, and all veterans, to join them for the annual Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m. at Coe Memorial Park. If it rains, the ceremony will be held in the civic center at the park. If any organizati­on would like to participat­e in the program by placing a wreath to honor our Veterans, contact the Veteran Service Office at 860 489-2531 by Tuesday Nov. 7 at 3 p.m.

AFERNOON MUSIC: The Music Series of The Congregati­onal Church of Burlington presents: Melissa Morgan and Jaroslaw Lis performing an afternoon of beautiful and soothing music, Nov. 11, 3 p.m. at the church on Route 4 in Burlington. MULTI MEDIA SHOW: Sally Van Doren will present a multi-media show including visual art, a poetry reading, and a performanc­e piece, Oct. 31-Dec. 9, with a reading and recepton on Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. at the Cornwall Library. The public is welcome to attend.

ROCK THE KITCHEN: 2nd Annual Rock The Kitchen – 8 hours of live music – on November 11, from 3 to 11 at the Eagles Club 974 on Main Street in Torrington – this will benefit the Torrington Community Soup Kitchen.

BENEFIT CONCERT: Matthew Valenti will give a benefit concert at the Center Congregati­onal Church on Main Street, Torrington. A long-time music teacher, Valenti will perform patriotic songs, Broadway hits, and well-known music on the church’s grand piano. The hour-long concert will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.

HARWINTON VETERANS DAY CEREMONY: The Harwinton American Legion Post 137 will conduct a Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2 p.m. at the town green at the intersecti­on of South Rd. and Rte. 4 (Burlington Rd.). The ceremony will include a guest speaker and the honoring of each of this year’s deceased Harwinton veterans. Refreshmen­ts will follow the ceremony at the Community Hall across from the green. In the event of bad weather, the ceremony will be held in the Community Hall.

STEAM VENT: Steam Vent Coffee House: Final e-Vent of the season, will be held NOv. 11, 6-10 p.m. at First Church of Winsted, with an Open Mic from 6-6:30 p.m. and featured performers including The AXE Factory, Mark Moriarty; Bill Morrell, Eric Paradine; Bill Benson, Mike Lovallo and Edie Mallick, Jean Stokes Recchia and Blue Byrd Stephen Haskell. Monday, Nov. 13

OVERNIGHT PARKING: From now through March 31, 2018, all parking on city streets in Torrington is banned. Any vehicle parked for more than an hour during this time period will be fined $20 for each time they are in violation. During a storm, vehicles may be towed at owner expense if the owner is not available to move it. This ban is a safety measure for motorists and emergency vehicles, improving the efficiency of plowing and clearing over 40 square miles of city streets.

BOOK GROUP: The Harwinton Library’s Non-Fiction Book Group will meet Nov. 13, at 2 p.m., discussing the book The Professor and the Madman by Simon Winchester. Copies available and the event is free.
