WASHINGTON — Shepaug Dramatics will bring “The 1940s Radio Hour” to the stage at Shepaug Valley School on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8-10.

Written by Walton Jones, “The 1940s Radio Hour: takes place at Christmastime in New York City in 1942. On the cold and snowy evening of December 21, the talented entertainers of WOV radio station broadcast their final musical variety show for troops overseas. With songs including “Strike Up the Band,” “I’ll be Seeing You,” “Blue Moon” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” the show is wonderfully patriotic, sentimental and nostalgic.

The all-student cast and crew will feature a combination of solo and ensemble performances.

“After watching the reaction of the cast when they finished their first read-through of the script, I knew we had made a good choice. The students really enjoyed having an opportunity to step back into an era that is so different and foreign to them” said Beth Harvison, Musical Director of Shepaug Valley School. “The fast and funny pace of a ‘40s radio show really grabbed them from the very beginning. When the reading was finished, I think they all realized the importance these radio shows held in lifting the spirits of all Americans in the service, home and abroad during extremely difficult times.”

Shepaug Dramatics was recently recognized for Best Contemporary Musical for their spring production of The Theory of Relativity in the spring of 2017 at the 14th Annual Halo Awards, which recognize excellence in High School theatre.

“We were thrilled to be recognized with a Halo award and delighted to see many members of that cast bring The 1940s Radio Hour to stage” Harvison said.

Tickets can be purchased through the Box Office by calling 860-7172444 or in person at the door.

All performances will take place in the theatre at Shepaug Valley School, 159 South Street, Washington. Evening performances take place on Friday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. Matinee performances are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.

General admission tickets are $10. Tickets for students, senior citizens and veterans are $5. All proceeds will be used to support future productions of Shepaug Dramatics.
