Hospital names auxiliary’s Artist of the Month
TORRINGTON — The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) Auxiliary is featuring the artwork of Bernard Jucevics now through early December in the hospital’s main lobby hallway, 540 Litchfield Street, Torrington.
The public is invited to view and buy the works during regular visiting hours as part of the Auxiliary’s ongoing Artist of the Month program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork support the CHH Auxiliary and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Jucevics was born in Eastern Europe in 1939. He is a self-taught landscape artist who started pursing his passion later in life – following his retirement from the manufacturing industry. The inspiration for his paintings is the beauty of nature in all its forms. A stream, a meadow, or a sunlit sky is all it takes to spark his creativity. Depicting the changing seasons of New England also brings added color and variety to his work.
This is Jucevics’ fourth art display for the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Auxiliary. In addition to these successful displays, he has also had his artwork featured in various shows and galleries throughout Litchfield County. He was also selected as the first place winner in an art contest presented through the Blick Art Supply Company. He has also donated some of his artwork to fundraisers and other humanitarian causes.
Jucevics is always seeking new techniques that would further advance his artistic skills. He also enjoys sharing his knowledge with other artists. As such, Jucevics is a regular attendee of the Sullivan Senior Center art class where he very much enjoys interacting with other artists. His ‘later life’ accomplishments in landscape artistry remind us all that it is never too late to pursue a dream or a long held passion.
The Auxiliary’s “Artist of the Month” program has been featuring paintings, photographs, and artwork each month from local artists for over 25 years. More than 200 member supporters assist in raising money for the hospital through dues, donations, volunteering at the gift shop, and a variety of events including an annual fall fashion show and luncheon.
