F.I.S.H. receives donation from Mormon church
TORRINGTON — Through the sponsorship and volunteerism of the nonprofit Torrington Woman’s Club, a load of $2,500 of food paid for by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was delivered on Nov. 4 by members of the Torrington Woman’s Club to the F.I.S.H. food pantry in Torrington.
The facility received approximately $2,000 worth of non-perishable and frozen food, and the balance was delivered to the Kids Care Closet for Unstably Housed Kids at Torrington High School.
Jonathan Zeiner, with his wife Karen and son Trevor, volunteered their assistance to The Torrington Woman’s Club, driving to the distribution center in Worcester, MA, to pick up the huge load of food supplies.
Daryl Fleming, residential monitor at the F.I.S.H. shelter in Torrington, assists in organizing the cases of food donated by the non-profit sponsorship of The Torrington Woman’s Club on behalf of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. Heading into the busy holidays and winter, food pantry manager Margaret Franzi expressed her appreciation on behalf of F.I.S.H. for the generous donation.
At the food pantry, Jonathan Zeiner, June Zeiner, Torrington Woman’s Club chairman of education; Karen Zeiner; Deidre Houlihan DiCara, F.I.S.H. executive director; Trevor Zeiner; Margaret Franzi, F.I.S.H. food pantry manager; and Carroll Hudak,
F.I.S.H. volunteer, were among those who helped unload the truck.
The F.I.S.H. food pantry provides food daily to hundreds of families and individuals in need all year. During the holidays, members provide Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas gifts to families. Donations are always welcome. The pantry is now accepting donations of Thanksgiving food for its basket giveaway.
