City man faces drug charges
TORRINGTON — A city man is facing narcotics charges after Torrington police say they caught him flushing heroin down the toilet.
John J. Hobson, 46, of 2 Perkins St., Torrington, was arrested Nov. 15 and charged with two counts of sale of narcotic substance, interfering with an officer, tampering with physical evidence, two counts of possession of a controlled substance or more than a half-ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court records.
Two officers saw two men known to be drug users leaving Village South Condominium Wednesday afternoon and met them on South Main Street, according to a probable-cause report.
Police determined that one of the men was in possession of 10 bags of heroin, which he had bought from a man known as “John Boy,” a resident of the complex.
According to the report, Torrington police had previously received information that a white man known as “John Boy” was selling heroin out of his home and drove a black Nissan registered to a John Hobson.
A record check indicated that Hobson was a convicted felon with a criminal history in New York and Connecticut. Police later arrested Hobson after obtaining and executing a search warrant, according to the report.
“Hobson attempted to flush multiple bags of heroin down the toilet on initial entry but was apprehended in the act,” police said. “Items located inside this apartment coincide with the purchase, use and sale of narcotics such as heroin, marijuana, scales, and a large sum of cash in small denominations.”
Hobson was arrested and was arraigned Thursday in Superior Court in Torrington, according to court records. Bail was set at $25,000 cash or surety and the case was continued to Dec. 13.
