TORRINGTON — The staff at Oliver Wolcott Technical High School will open their doors to the public for their 33rd annual Thanksgiving Community dinner from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m. Thursday.

A tradition since 1982, this year’s dinner will be prepared by the school’s Culinary Arts Department, under the direction of Chef Michael McDowell.

The meal is free and take-out is available.

Anyone who does not have a place to go or those who otherwise will be alone on Thanksgiving Day are welcome to come to the luncheon. Reservations are not required. The school is located at 75 Oliver St. in Torrington.

Staff and families of Oliver Wolcott Technical School donate the food for the luncheon and the congregation of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Torrington donatse the pies.

Because the food is prepared and served by the Wolcott Tech students, outside volunteers are not needed for food preparation.

Free transportation will be provided by Kelley Transit, of Torrington, from Trinity Church in Torrington.

Pick-ups to the luncheon will be at 10:30 and noon from Trinity Church. Drop-offs to Trinity Church will be at noon and 1p.m.

Christine Dickinson, of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Torrington, coordinates volunteers to deliver meals to people in Torrington, Winsted, Litchfield and Harwinton who are unable to attend the luncheon.

Anyone interested in receiving a meal at their home or anyone who would like to volunteer to help deliver meals on Thanksgiving morning should call St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 860482-3555.
