Newtown Cyclocross Race held Nov. 5

DANBURY — The Newtown Cyclocross presented by the CT Cycling Advancement Program (CCAP) Nov. 5, and Team 26 staged 12 races, with 197 riders of all ages competing at the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard stables in Newtown nearly five years after the tragic events at Sandy Hook. CCAP appreciated the gracious presence throughout the day by Major James Marrinan, Commanding Officer of the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard.

Funds raised support the CCAP and Team 26. The race sponsors were Cannondale and Ovens of France. For more details, interested cyclists or their families may visit CCAP on Facebook ctcyclingadvancement.org.

Boys 9 to 12: 1st Place: Cade Fravel, 11 years old from Redding of CCAP/ Fairfield County Youth Cycling, 2nd Place: William Nafis, 12 years old from East Hampton of CCAP Muddy Mayhem, 3rd Place: Eneas Freyre, 12 years old from Redding

Girls 13 to15: 1st Place: Aeryn Northway, 12 years old from Cheshire of the Railtrailers, 2nd Place: Sarah Gibertoni, 13 years old from Cheshire of the Railtrailers,. 3rd Place: Mia Dannucci, 12 years old of the Croissant Crushers

Boys 13 to15: 1st Place: Xander Jones, 15 years old from Columbia of the CCAP, 2nd Place: Nic Villamizar, 15 years old from Glastonbury of the ERRACERS, 3rd Place: Ben Nafis, 14 years old from East Hampton of CCAP Muddy Mayhem

Boys 16 to18: 1st Place: Wyatt Cote, 17 years old from Burlington, a CCAP racer and a member of Team 26, 2nd Place: Kyle Mullaly, 16 years old from Wethersfield a CCAP racer, 3rd Place: Ryan Zwick, 16 years old from Wethersfield a member of the Muddy Mayhem/CCAP team

Team 26 is a group of cyclists affected by the tragedy at Sandy Hook School.
