TORRINGTON — Two Thomaston residents accused of stealing more than $30,000 worth of cash and jewelry from a town home were arraigned in state Superior Court in Torrington.

Daniel J. Sanford, 29, and Jessyka L. Sanford, 30, both of Williams Street, were arrested Nov. 22 and charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny.

According to an affidavit included in both files, Jessyka Sanford, while speaking with police, admitted to burglarizing the home of a town resident on three occasions in October.

Daniel Sanford told police he had accompanied her during one of the robberies, helping her “pry open a safe, located in the garage, removing envelopes of cash,” according to the affidavit.

The homeowner reported approximately $29,000 in cash and four gold necklaces, valued collectively at $2,000, had been stolen from the home’s safe, among other missing items.

The homeowner had been away on vacation while the robberies took place, with a relative visiting

the home intermittently to feed their cats, according to the affidavit.

Sanford had a prior relationship with a family member of the homeowner, and thus had knowledge of the safe’s location and access code, according to the affidavit.

A Thomaston police officer reported seeing a white Jeep Grand Cherokee, matching one owned by Jessyka Sanford, on one of the dates the robberies occurred.

Among other items, police seized $6,500 in cash, an 2006 Audi A4, and stolen items that had been pawned in Waterbury in connection with the arrests, according to the affidavit.

Both cases were transferred to Part A proceedings, where more serious matters are adjudicated, according to court records.

Bail for Daniel Sanford was set at $50,000 cash or surety, while bail for Jessyka Sanford was set at $35,000 cash or surety. Both cases were continued to Dec. 5.
