Art associatio­n show opens Saturday with awards presentati­on

KENT — The Kent Art Associatio­n’s Elected Artists and Solo Show opens Saturday with an opening reception and presentati­on of awards beginning at 2 p.m.

The show runs through Dec. 16. Judges for this show are Mary Anne Carley and Werner Kappes.

Elected Artist is the highest status of membership offered by the Kent Art Associatio­n, and is given to a select group of artists whose work has been accepted in at least 2 juried shows in the past 3 years and who have submitted an applicatio­n for Elected Artist status. The applicants are then required to submit 3 examples of their work to a panel of Elected Artists who view it and then vote on whether to accept or reject the applicatio­n. Elected Artist means that the artists work consistent­ly meets the high standard of quality set by the KAA for its members.

A Solo Show is awarded to the winner of “Best in Show” at the previous year’s President’s Juried Show. Last years winner, Patricia Billeci, will exhibit a collection of her paintings in the Aiken Room on the first floor of the Gallery.

The KAA is owned by its members, and all artwork is for sale. The associatio­n retains a portion of each sale to support its functions throughout the year. The Elected Artist Show is our last show for the 2017 season. The 2018 season opens in February with a Student Show. featuring artwork by the talented young artists from area high schools, both private and public.
