HOLIDAY TRAIN SHOW: The annual model train show and non-perishable food drive returns to the Torrington Armory Sunday, Dec. 3, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The annual event is hosted by the City of Torrington and the Torrington-based model railroad club. Admission is free; the club asks visitors to bring nonperisha­ble food items for Friendly Hands Food Bank.

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE: The Colebrook Historical Society will hold its annual Holiday Open House on Sunday, Dec. 3, 3-5 p.m. Guests can enjoy refreshmen­ts, music, a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas’ by Megan McTAvish, and a tree lighting, all at the Seymour Inn, home of the society. PERCUSSION CONCERT: On Sunday December 3, at 4:00p.m., St. Michael’s Parish presents a special percussion concert featuring John Marshall and Mark Ingram, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. The concert is open to the public, admission is $20 to benefit St. Michael’s music program. ARTISAN MARKETPLAC­E: The historic Van Vleck House at Flanders Nature Center is the setting for the annual “Artisan Marketplac­e, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, through Dec. 17. The Van Vleck house is located at the corner of Flanders and Church Hill Roads in Woodbury.

LIVING NATIVITY: Ecumenical Living Nativity at Lourdes Shrine in Litchfield, a Family Christmas Activity, will be held Sunday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. The event features the reenactmen­t of biblical readings and a procession to the outdoor grotto with live creche and choral music. Choirs, both young and teen, instrument­als and live animals all add to the beauty and celebratio­n of the Christmas story, with free hot chocolate and cookies. There is no charge; donations are welcome. Toddlers and children welcome to come early at 2:40 p.m. to receive a halo and wings to join the choir of angels.

LIGHT UP A LIFE: The Board of Goshen Community Care and Hospice invite the community to the annual “Light Up A Life” tree lighting ceremony at Goshen’s Old Town Hall, at the corner of Route 4 and 63, on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 4:30 p.m. Guests will read aloud from our Book of Remembranc­e the names of our loved ones whose memories we cherish. Stop by the library, mail in your donation or visitbeard­sleylibrar­y.org and donate from now through the month of December. Donations are $1 per light; $25 for 50 lights; $50 for 100 lights. All proceeds benefit the library. Checks should be made out to The Friends of the Library. On Dec. 14 at 6 p.m., the Friends will hold a tree lighting ceremony at the library.

OVERNIGHT PARKING: From now through March 31, 2018, all parking on city streets in Torrington is banned. Any vehicle parked for more than an hour during this time period will be fined $20 for each time they are in violation. During a storm, vehicles may be towed at owner expense if the owner is not available to move it. This ban is a safety measure for motorists and emergency vehicles, improving the efficiency of plowing and clearing over 40 square miles of city streets.

HOLIDAY DECORATING CONTEST: Torrington’s Annual Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest will be held on Tuesday, Dec 12, sponsored by the Torrington Parks & Recreation Department in conjunctio­n with Torrington Lions Club. DAR HOLIDAY LUNCHEON: The BrooksGree­n Woods Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold their annual Holiday Luncheon at noon, on Wednesday, De.c 6 at 12 p.m. at Portobello's Restaurant, 107 Main St, Rt 44, New Hartford.
