Tuesday, Dec. 5

HOLIDAY PARTY: The Litchfield Democratic Town Committee will be holding its annual Holiday Party on Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. at the Oliver Wolcott Library, 160 South Street, Litchfield. LIGHT UP BEARDSLEY: Friends of the Beardsley & Memorial Library are holding a fundraiser to "Light up Beardsley, and are asking for donations. Watch as the lights of love for the library grow on the outside evergreen tree through the month of December. Stop by the library, mail in your donation or visitbeard­sleylibrar­y.org and donate from now through the month of December. Donations are $1 per light; $25 for 50 lights; $50 for 100 lights. All proceeds benefit the library. Checks should be made out to The Friends of the Library. On Dec. 14 at 6 p.m., the Friends will hold a tree lighting ceremony at the library.

OVERNIGHT PARKING: From now through March 31, 2018, all parking on city streets in Torrington is banned. Any vehicle parked for more than an hour during this time period will be fined $20 for each time they are in violation. During a storm, vehicles may be towed at owner expense if the owner is not available to move it. This ban is a safety measure for motorists and emergency vehicles, improving the efficiency of plowing and clearing over 40 square miles of city streets.

PEARL HARBOR DAY: The Torrington Veterans Support Committee will hold a Pearl Harbor Day observance, rain or shine at the Coe Memorial Park Civic Center, Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Leo Martigneni, committee chairman, asks everyone to please make an effort to join in paying tribute to the men and women who survived as well as those who sacrificed their lives 76 years ago as well as to their families. FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON: Northwest Connecticu­t YMCA will host its 6th Annual Freezin’ for a Reason event, which unites the community at the park to shine a light on the persistent issue of homelessne­ss, Dec. 8 at East End Park, Winsted. Y staff, Y members, community leaders, and any neighbor who wishes to join this important fight will spend the entire night on the town green. PASTA SUPPER: The Burlington Girl Scouts will hold a Pasta Supper with Santa, Dec. 8, 6-8 p.m. at Lake Garda Elementary School cafeteria, 61 Monce Rd., Burlington. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be here from the North Pole to visit. The dinner includes pasta, meatballs, garlic bread, salad, and hot and cold beverages. TOY SHOWER: Torrington’s annual Toy Shower Day will be held Dec. 8, 5-8 p.m. at Coe Memorial Park Civic Center. Mrs. Claus will be there to welcome visitors and there will be holiday entertainm­ent by local schools and musicians. Refreshmen­ts will be available. WZBG will broadcast live all day. Anyone interested in making a pledge may call the station that day or drop off donations at the Civic Center that evening. All who attend are asked to bring a donation or a new unwrapped toy for the visitors to Christmas Village, which opens Sunday, Dec. 10.

Saturday, Dec. 9

LIBRARY PROGRAM: Historical Lecture Series. A Lost Generation, will be held at the Beekley Library, New Hartford, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. The program is free and open to the public. The talk will discuss the war and its ending at the Versailles Conference as well as its aftermath in the cultural, economic and political spheres, which would ultimately result in the outbreak of war only 20 years after the close of WW I.
