Holiday windows glimmer

Annual Outdoor Decorating Contest winners named

TORRINGTON — The Torrington Parks and Recreation Department have announced the winners of this year’s Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest.

Members of the Torrington Lions Club served as judges and toured the locations of this year’s participan­ts on Tuesday, Dec. 12. There were 26 entries registered in four different categories. The winners are listed below.

Commercial Christmas Display

First place: Ted’s Appliance, 391 Migeon Avenue. Ted’s window is filled with Santas, snowmen, elves and toys.

Second place: Lily and Vine Floral Design, 405 Migeon Avenue. The flower shop created a sugarplum fairy scene with giant lollipops and other sweets in pastel colors.

Third place: Heaven Scent Floral Creations, 98 Main St. The flower shop’s display has a vintage theme with a sled and red and white figures including an allwhite Santa Claus.

Residentia­l Christmas Display

First place: Dylan Gangell, 278 Oak Avenue; second place: Jeremy Bushey, 2480 Newfield Road; third place: James Burns, 834 Torringfor­d West Street.

Residentia­l Decorated Doorway

First place: Jim & Kathy Pelchat, 131 MacDonald St.; Second place:

Brian & Kathy Mercure, 208 Oxford Way; Third place: Nicklas & Molly Spino, 171 Torrington Heights Road.

Residentia­l Nativity Display

First place: James Burns, 834 Torringfor­d West St.; second place, Frank Bozak, 84 Colt Avenue.

The Torrington Parks and Recreation Department and Lions Club thanked all of this year’s participan­ts and congratula­ted the winners on a job well done.

Trophies were provided to the top three in all four categories with funds provided by an anonymous donor and gift cards were provided to the top three in the Residentia­l Display category, with a donation by Lowe’s Home Improvemen­t.
