MONDAY SCHOLARS: Monday Scholars: Stephen’s Story & History of Hitler’s Empire with Dr. Thomas Childers and facilitate­d by Patricia Moore and Bibby Veerman, will be held at the Oliver Wolcott Library, 160 South St., Litchfield, Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29, 12:30-2 p.m. The six-week course will attempt answer the many questions about Adolf Hitler and his rise to power. Participan­ts will watch Stephen’s Story: Living Through the Holocaust, Stephen Breuer’s film recalling his experience living through the Holocaust. LIBRARY PASSPORT PROGRAM: Oliver Wolcott Library’s Passport Program, for ages 3-10, begins Jan. 8 and continues through Feb. 28. Travel the world through OWL’s book stacks - for free. Are you aching for a new adventure filled with action and suspense? Are you dying (pun intended) to solve a mystery? Do you wish you could feel the sand between your toes as you relax with a beach read? Well, this challenge is for you! AUDUBON MEETING: The Litchfield Hills Audubon Society will hold its next meeting on Monday, Jan. 8, 7 p.m. at the Litchfield Community Center, Route 202, Litchfield. The program is “Isthmian Bird Treks: Chasing Lifers in Panama,” presented by Chris Wood. The illustrate­d talk will focus on his adventures in the Darien wildnernes­s, the Canal Zone, the Caribbean coast and the mountains of Western Panama, and the amazing variety of birds found there. The public is welcome and the event is free.

READINGS FROM THE ARCHIVES: Join us at the Washington Senior Center on Monday, Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. for “Readings from the Archives of the Gunn Historical Museum” will be held Jan. 8, 10 a.m. at the Washington Senior Center, Bryan Hall Plaza, Washington Depot, and reading of the paper, In Litchfield Hills: Washington, written by George Alson Marvin in 1897, is the program. COMMUNITY FORUM: The Burlington Community Fund in cooperatio­n with the Town of Burlington present a “The Reality of Opioid Abuse,” a community forum, Jan. 10, 7 p.m. in the Lewis S. Mills High School Auditorium. The public is welcome. Moderator is Tom Farrey of the Aspen Institute. Panelists include representa­tives from The McCall Center for Behavioral Health, State Police, BVFD-EMT, and counseling centers. Discussion to include the use of substances from young adults to the elderly, interventi­ons and resources available to help.
