TORRINGTON — A Torrington man is facing drug and motor vehicle charges after police said he fled from officers with 125 grams of marijuana in his car.

Ty Kittle, 28, of Patterson Street, was arrested Dec. 31 and charged with sale of a controlled substance, possession of more than four ounces of marijuana, use of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance in a school zone, reckless driving, operation of an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to obey traffic control signals, operating a motor vehicle without a license and disobeying an officer’s signal.

According to police reports, two plain-clothes officers saw a Dodge Caravan parked in front of a house known by police to be involved in drug activity on the evening of Dec. 31. A man left the vehicle and

went inside the home while the driver waited in the vehicle.

“Due to the location and suspicious activity, officers suspected involvement of drug activity,” a Torrington police officer stated in his report.

The vehicle left the scene. Police checked its registration and found it had expired, according to the report.

With police lights and sirens activated, the officers attempted to stop the minivan on East Main Street, but the vehicle disregarded the signals and travelled until it was forced to stop at the red light of a busy fourway intersection, police said.

According to the report, the officers approached the vehicle on foot with badges displayed and ordered “the occupants of the vehicle to open the doors and show their hands.”

“The occupants refused (officers’) verbal commands as the front passenger was observed holding the door

shut with both their hands,” officers said in the report. The vehicle then traveled through the intersection, going against the red light, endangering drivers and the officers, “who were within inches of the vehicle prior to (its) fleeing.”

Officers found the vehicle on Patterson Street, according to the report. A “clear plastic zip-lock bag that contained a green leafy substance that was suspected to be marijuana” was in plain view.

A glass jar containing 125 grams of marijuana was later found in the vehicle, while Kittle was in possession of $345 cash and plastic bags “consistent with drug-packaging material.”

Kittle was identified as the driver of the vehicle, police said. He was arrested, released on $10,000 bond and was scheduled to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Torrington.

Kittle’s case was continued to Feb. 14, according to court records.

Deonte Jenkins, 23, of Winthrop Street in Torrington, was the passenger, police said. He was charged

with interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, released on $2,500 bail and was scheduled to appear Monday in state Superior Court. Jenkins is scheduled to appear in court on the charge of interfering with an officer on Feb. 1, according to court records.
