Gallery presents author talk, benefit for FISH
TORRINGTON — Five Points Gallery, located at 33 Main St. in downtown Torrington, will host a book signing and digital illustration demonstration on Sunday Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and will benefit FISH.
Chef Amanda Glover will discuss her cookbook, Sweetie: Bake Your Day: Sweet and Savory Baked Goods Anyone Can Make. She will be joined by the book’s illustrator, Raheem Nelson, who will demonstrate the fundamentals involved in digital illustration.
Throughout this book, which is playfully illustrated by Raheem Nelson, the reader will discover tips on using high quality and local ingredients. Equipment is kept to a minimum, making the recipes accessible to any avid home baker. All this in the spirit of Amanda who believes that anyone can bake!
Chef Glover is best known for her baking business, Amanda Bakes. Deciding to go into business for herself, Ms. Glover discovered a beautiful converted Airstream, that she would eventually name “Sweetie” and Amanda Bakes was born.
Raheem "Ra" Nelson is an Apple certified iPad Artist with a background in Cartooning and Oil Painting. In this innovative digital session attendees will learn the fundamentals of how Ra creates a painting on a digital canvas using various applications. You'll also get an in depth look at the art behind the new cookbook.
Amanda Glover and Raheem Nelson will entertain a Q &A session, offer free tastings as well as sign books.
A portion of all proceeds will support FISH/Friends in Service to Humanity of Northwestern CT. Since opening its doors in 1972, FISH has evolved into the largest emergency homeless shelter in the NWCT corner, providing families, individuals and veterans a safe and secure haven, as well as serving the residents of area communities as a food pantry.
