Torrington students have art show at library
TORRINGTON — The Torrington Library has partnered with the Torrington Public Schools to host a student art show during the month of March, which is also Youth Art Month. The art show will begin Thursday, March 1, and run through March 28. The public can view the student art work every Wednesday and Thursday from 4-8 p.m., and every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with extended hours on March 1 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Art teachers throughout the district selected a variety of different art pieces — ranging from paintings, to drawings, to sculpture pieces — to showcase throughout the month. Approximately 50 pieces will be on display in the lower level and second floor gallery spaces at the library. A closing reception will be held on Wednesday, March 28 from 5-7 p.m. to congratulate students and allow the public to mingle with the student artists. The reception will feature light refreshments, sponsored by the Torrington Downtown Partners.
In a statement, library director Jessica Gueniat, said,“We are thrilled that the Torrington art teachers approached the library to host the student art show and youth art month celebration. We have an extremely talented group of young artists in our schools and we feel honored to have their work displayed for the public to see. Thank you to the teachers who took the time and have the dedication to facilitate such an important student event. We encourage everyone to visit the library and see firsthand the extraordinary work these young people are creating.”
