‘The King and I’ takes the stage in Falls Village
FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Musical Theatre Society presents the “The King and I” at Housatonic Valley Regional High School.
Performances are Thursday, March 15 at 7 p.m., Friday, March 16 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, March 17 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Winner of five Tony Awards when it opened in 1952, “The King and I” has continued to garner Tony Awards with each revival, featuring songs that have become beloved classics: “Getting To Know You,” “I Whistle A Happy Tune,” “Shall We Dance” and “Hello, Young Lovers.”
“The King and I” is produced and assistant directed by founder of HMTS, a performer and advocate for arts in education, Lori Belter, with direction and music direction by Michael Berkeley, who has provided direction/musical direction for more than 40 musicals.
With choreography by Broadway veteran and former Rockette Amber Cameron, this year’s production includes 23 high school students and 16 students from the Region One elementary schools. This production will be accompanied by a live, 15-piece orchestra.
General seating tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, children and seniors, with special $5 balcony tickets available at the door for Friday night only.
