Only answer for Woodridge Lake’s sewer plan is ‘no’

-

This letter was sent to Mayor Elinor Carbone and Torrington City Council members.

Thank you for your tireless efforts to promote the prosperity and growth of Torrington. Wikipedia describes the City Council as a legislative body to govern a city. Its general functions serve as a congressional style legislative body, proposing bills, holding votes and passing laws to help govern the city of Torrington.

In 1989, the DEEP reviewed the sewer system in Woodridge Lake Sewer District. It took five years and three engineers to determine that the hydraulic capacity is the problem. How many new homes were built on the Woodridge Lake Sewer District system in those five years?

How many extensive renovations (additional bedrooms and baths) have been added to existing homes in the Woodridge Lake Sewer District?

What actions did the Woodridge Lake Sewer Districttake to solve their own problems? How many more new homes will be built on the Woodridge Lake Sewer District systems?

Has the Woodridge Lake Sewer District considered purchasing additional property to add to the Woodridge Lake Sewer District to solve their own problem? Can’t they install their own engineered septic systems?

So for 29 years, yes, Torringtonians, 29 years…. Woodridge Lake Sewer District has made no effort to advocate for their property owners?

Torrington has to follow guidelines dictated by the state, including timelines. Apparently, Woodridge Lake Sewer District has no such guidelines to follow?

How many hours has the city of Torrington already spent debating this topic, besides the eight hours during four sessions we attended?

I do feel for our neighbors in the Woodridge Lake Sewer District, but Torrington is our priority. Or have the issues with our streets, schools, safety been tackled and solved?

During the public hearings, Woodridge Lake Sewer District should have spoken before the public gave input, so we, the public, could determine which questions to ask. Now, after Woodridge Lake Sewer District’s attorney, Chris Smith, spent 20 minutes reiterating everything that had been stated in the last two hours, all Torrington is awarded is an extra two weeks to make an educated decision.

As a Torrington taxpayer, I feel the solution can only be NO.
