THOMASTON — Landmark Community Theatre presents the literary classic, “To Kill A Mockingbird,” on its main stage at the Thomason Opera House, opening Saturday at 8 p.m.
The show is the direction of Lucia Dressel, who last year directed “The Diary of Anne Frank.”
The play chronicles the social and racial inequalities of the rural south in 1935 as told through the eyes of a young girl.
The story: Jean Louise Finch, better known as Scout, portrayed by newcomer Bobbie Doherty of Stonington, is a precocious young tomboy whose innocence and blindness to the faults of her neighbors are what drive the plot of this tumultuous drama. Her eyes are opened when her father, the heroic Atticus Finch, played by Josiah Rowe of North Haven, takes on a controversial case defending a man of color who is wrongly accused of rape. Fighting racism and injustice, Atticus teaches Scout and her brother, Jem, to always stand up for what’s right.
Note to theater guests: “To Kill A Mockingbird” contains strong language and situations.
Evening performances of “To Kill a Mockingbird” will be held tonight at 8 p.m. and continues Fridays and Saturdays, March 16-17, 23-24 at 8 p.m. and Sundays, March 11, 18 and 25 at 2 p.m.
